About Ila – SE VCH, SE, FI, NO UCH Wakanda Legend Mwindaji Imogen

Ila is a cheerful, positive, and mentally stable Basenji girl with great joy of life and lots of personality. She loves to be where things are happening and thrives best close to her pack – her pack is the most important thing in the world to her. She happily joins us on our adventures, big and small, and is a trustworthy and delightful dog to have by your side, whether in everyday life or out in the forest.

Ila was born on December 23, 2023, and came to Sweden from Croatia, where she was bred by Melita Vela (Wakanda Legend). She has an internationally influenced pedigree that we find very interesting and which was also an important factor when we began considering her as a breeding bitch.

What we love so much about Ila is her fine temperament, work drive, and breed-typical wholeness. She has undergone BPH (Behavioral and Personality Description for Dogs) and enjoys having a task to work on together with us. In game tracking, she gets to use her curiosity, focus, and work drive, and it's wonderful to see how she tackles the task. In the show ring, she has also had fine successes and is today a Swedish, Finnish, and Norwegian show champion.

But for us, Ila is first and foremost Ila. The titles are of course fun and her conformation is important, but it is the whole package that made us want to let her become the mother of our first Mwindaji litter. Her stable temperament, joy of life, work drive, pack sense, and utterly special Basenji personality are qualities we hope to pass on.

It feels incredible to get to share this exciting journey with just her. We are going into this chapter with great care and thoughtfulness, and we are very happy and expectant about getting to follow Ila on this new part of her life.

Health
Ila is clear of Fanconi syndrome and PRA-BJ1, has ED 0 and PPM iris–iris, and HD C. Hip dysplasia does occur in Basenjis, but it is relatively uncommon and is not considered a widespread health problem within the breed. Svenska Basenjisällskapet has no requirement for hip X-rays before breeding, but recommends X-rays of breeding dogs.

In SKK's individual assessment, the examining veterinarian determined that the C result was consistent with somewhat shallower hip sockets. The hip joints simultaneously had good and even fit, without signs of subluxation or arthritis. Ila is clinically healthy and has no hip-related issues. Both of Ila's parents have HD A (Excellent Hips).

In breeding, we always consider the whole picture and weigh together health, family background, function, and other relevant characteristics.
